You’ve probably tried it: pasting your numbers into ChatGPT. Last month’s revenue, a screenshot of Analytics, maybe a rough description of your funnel — then asking what it thinks. And the answer came back articulate, structured, plausible… and weirdly weightless. Like advice from a smart consultant who met your business four minutes ago. Because that’s exactly what it was.
It remembers you now. It still doesn’t watch your numbers.
This used to be an easy argument: ChatGPT forgot you the moment a chat ended. That’s no longer true, and a fair comparison has to start with what it does today.
- Memory. With Memory on, ChatGPT can draw on saved memories, past chats, custom instructions, files in your Library and content from connected apps such as Gmail to personalize answers (OpenAI: Memory in ChatGPT). The Free plan gets a limited version; paid plans get more.
- Projects. A project keeps related chats, files and instructions together, and can take Google Drive and Slack links as sources (OpenAI: Projects in ChatGPT).
- Connected apps. Apps such as Google Drive or Slack let ChatGPT find a file, summarize a document or look up a message, and some let it take supported actions, under permission settings you control (OpenAI: Connected apps in ChatGPT).
- Data analysis. Upload a spreadsheet, CSV, PDF or JSON file and it runs Python to summarize trends, build tables and chart the data (OpenAI: Data analysis with ChatGPT).
So it doesn’t greet you like a stranger any more. The real difference is what it’s looking at. Memory holds what you told it. Apps fetch a document or a message when a question calls for it. Data analysis works on the file you uploaded, and OpenAI’s own help page says that environment cannot make external web requests or API calls: if the numbers live somewhere else, you upload them or connect an available source first. When your numbers sit in Stripe, GA4 and Shopify, that usually still means export, upload, ask, and a snapshot that’s already a little stale by the time the answer arrives.
Better: stop screenshotting your numbers into a chat and keep them live on one board.
The intelligence is real, and so is the memory. What’s missing is a standing view: your live metrics from every tool, side by side, read together every time you ask. It may remember what you told it last month, but it didn’t see what your numbers did since unless you brought them back.
An agent that starts already knowing
Vexlynk’s agent starts from the other end: it has already read your business. “Chat AI only speaks when spoken to” is also out of date. ChatGPT has scheduled tasks that run once or on a repeat and can monitor for changes (Go, Plus and Pro), and on Plus and above, event-triggered tasks that react to new Gmail messages, Slack channel messages or GitHub pull request activity (OpenAI: Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT).

What ChatGPT does better
- General knowledge and creation. Research, brainstorming, writing about the wider world — a frontier chat model is the right tool and Vexlynk isn’t trying to replace it.

- Throwaway analysis. One CSV, one question, no tomorrow. Its data analysis runs real Python on the file and lets you review the code (how it works).

The honest verdict
Keep ChatGPT for the world. But for the questions that decide your week — where the money is coming from, which client is drifting, what changed overnight — general intelligence working from a snapshot usually loses to the same kind of intelligence reading your live data.
