A Baremetrics alternative for businesses that are more than subscriptions: Stripe as a live card next to YouTube, GA4, Shopify and HubSpot.

If you are searching for a Baremetrics alternative, there is a good chance your Stripe numbers are only part of the story. You sell a subscription, yes, but you also run a YouTube channel, a Shopify store, a HubSpot pipeline or a calendar full of client calls. A dashboard that knows your Stripe account in depth still cannot tell you why this month felt slow, because the reason may be sitting in another tab.

This post compares the two honestly. Baremetrics is a specialist in subscription analytics, and for many SaaS companies it is the right tool. Vexlynk answers a different question: what does Stripe look like next to everything else you run? Knowing which question you are asking will save you a migration you do not need.

What does Baremetrics do?

As of October 2026, Baremetrics’ website describes it as “Subscription Analytics for your Business” and says it helps you “track, analyze, and improve your subscription business.” Its homepage headline offers “Superior Dashboards and Analytics for Stripe”, and it says it works with “Stripe alone or Stripe with friends”.

Its metrics page says Baremetrics “tracks over 28 key subscription metrics including Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), Annual Run Rate (ARR), churn rate, upgrades, downgrades, and more”, with native integrations for Stripe, Shopify Partners, Braintree, Recurly, App Store Connect, Google Play and Chargebee. Around those metrics, the site lists tools built for a subscription business:

  • Recover: “Get help with failing charges and recover revenue.”
  • Cancellation Insights: “Gain insights into why customers cancel and reduce churn.”
  • Forecast+: “modeling, forecasting, and scenario planning in one tool.”
  • Segmentation, Benchmarks and Trial Insights, plus Slack updates and scheduled email reports.

It says it is built for “SaaS & subscription businesses”. That focus is its strength. Every feature on the page assumes recurring revenue is the center of your business.

Why look for a Baremetrics alternative?

Not because something is wrong with it. People usually start looking for a different reason: their Stripe account is one of five or six places where the business happens. A course creator has Stripe sales, a YouTube channel and a newsletter. A small agency has Stripe invoices, a HubSpot pipeline, Calendly bookings and a Trello board. A product seller has Stripe and Shopify.

For them, the question is rarely “what is my net revenue retention by segment?” It is “revenue dipped this week. Did fewer people find my videos, did my booked calls drop, or did a big client go quiet?” Answering that means looking at Stripe next to the rest. Baremetrics’ metrics page does say you can bring in data “from other sources like your CRM or Google Analytics via our API or integrations with Intercom and Zapier”, so it is not closed. But its center of gravity is billing. If yours is not, a different shape of tool may fit better.

How is Vexlynk different?

Vexlynk is a visual workspace, a canvas or “board”, where your business sources appear as live cards, and an AI agent reads the whole board. It is a desktop app for Windows and macOS, plus a web workspace. Stripe is one of 23 live sources, listed on the sources page.

The Stripe card

You connect Stripe with an API key from your own account. Keys are stored encrypted and never written into your workspace. The card shows your own account’s revenue, subscriptions and recent payments, and it is read-only: Vexlynk brings the data in and never writes back to Stripe. It is your account, not a billing system Vexlynk runs. The connecting sources guide covers the setup and how refreshing works.

Stripe next to everything else

The point is what sits beside that card. Google Analytics shows traffic, acquisition channels and geography. Shopify shows revenue today, this week and this month, plus orders needing shipping. HubSpot shows your deal pipeline by stage and going-cold signals. YouTube Analytics shows views, watch time and subscriber trends. Calendly shows who booked and when. Trello, ClickUp and Notion bring your tasks and pages. Notes, to-dos and spreadsheets you write yourself sit on the same canvas.

An agent that reads all of it

The AI agent reads the cards on your board and the live data in them. You can ask one question across Stripe, analytics and your calendar together, and the answer is grounded in your own numbers with the source shown. If the answer depends on data you have not connected, it says so rather than guessing.

Three Vlynks that use your revenue

Vlynks are built-in analyses that write a card on your board when they run, with the cards each finding came from. Three of them work with revenue:

  • ROI & Break-Even gives your break-even point, ROI, cost breakdown and runway from the revenue and costs on your board. Costs are read wherever you write them: a note, a list, a text card or a spreadsheet. It is rule-based, with fixed, documented arithmetic, so the same board always gives the same result.
  • Customer Intelligence shows customer health, conversion funnel, revenue concentration and retention trend from the client data on your board, including client spreadsheets. Also rule-based.
  • Financial Control shows budget against spend, where the money goes and your cash position. It is AI-written under a published contract: every figure is taken from a card, and a line that claims a cause is removed.

What does it look like on a real board?

Take a hypothetical solo founder who sells a monthly membership through Stripe and grows it with a YouTube channel and a few sales calls a week.

  • Connect Stripe from Sources in the rail, paste the API key, and the revenue card fills with revenue, subscriptions and recent payments.
  • Connect YouTube Analytics and Calendly so views, watch time and booked calls sit next to it.
  • Write your costs in a note or a spreadsheet card, for example “hosting $40, editor $600, software $120” (made-up figures).
  • Install ROI & Break-Even from the Marketplace and run it. You get a card with break-even, ROI, cost breakdown and runway, each figure traced to the cards it came from.
  • Ask the agent: “Revenue is down this week. What else changed on the board?” It reads Stripe, the channel and the calendar together and answers from what those cards say.

You can set a Vlynk card to run daily or weekly, or refresh it whenever you want. Nothing is written to Stripe at any point.

When Baremetrics is the better choice

Be honest with yourself here, because in these cases Baremetrics fits better:

  • Your business is a SaaS or subscription company first. If MRR, ARR, churn, upgrades and downgrades are the numbers you run on, a tool that tracks over 28 subscription metrics is built for exactly that. Vexlynk’s Stripe card is not.
  • You want to recover failed payments. Baremetrics describes Recover for failing charges. Vexlynk’s Stripe source is read-only and does not contact your customers.
  • You want to know why people cancel. Cancellation Insights is a dedicated feature for that. Vexlynk has nothing equivalent.
  • You need financial forecasts and scenario planning. Forecast+ is described as modeling, forecasting and scenario planning. ROI & Break-Even gives you runway and break-even from your board, not a forecasting model.
  • You bill through several subscription systems. Their list of payment integrations is much longer than Vexlynk’s.

Some people use both: a subscription-analytics tool for the deep SaaS metrics, and Vexlynk for the board where revenue meets everything else.

When Vexlynk is not the right fit

If you only use Stripe and have no other tools worth connecting, most of Vexlynk’s value goes unused. If you want to manage billing, refunds or dunning, Vexlynk will not do it; it only reads. And the canvas does not load on phones, so it is built for a computer screen. For a wider look at tools in this space, see the full roundup.

Try Vexlynk with your Stripe account

Start small: one board, your Stripe card, and one other source you check every day. Try Vexlynk in your browser or download the desktop app. Everything that ships today is on the features page, and you can see plans when you are ready.

Frequently asked questions

Does Vexlynk calculate MRR and churn like Baremetrics?

Vexlynk’s documentation does not describe a subscription-metrics suite. The Stripe card shows your revenue, subscriptions and recent payments, and the agent and Vlynks reason over what the cards state. If detailed SaaS metrics are what you need, a specialist tool is the better fit.

Can Vexlynk change anything in my Stripe account?

No. The Stripe source is read-only. Vexlynk brings data in and does not write back to your Stripe account.

How does Vexlynk connect to Stripe?

You paste an API key from your Stripe account. Keys are stored encrypted and are never written into your workspace. You can disconnect the source at any time.

Can the agent compare Stripe with my other sources?

Yes. The agent reads every card on the board, so you can ask one question across Stripe, Google Analytics, YouTube, Shopify, your calendar and your notes, and it shows which cards the answer came from.

Do I need the desktop app?

No. The web workspace runs the same interface, workspaces and agent. The desktop app keeps your boards on your own computer by default, and a few features, such as the Files panel and the Video Editor, are desktop only.
