Most small business owners who look for a Looker Studio alternative for small business have already built a report or two. You connected Google Analytics, maybe a Google Sheet with sales, dragged charts onto a page and set the date range. It worked. Then a source changed, a field broke, you wanted one more number, and the report became a small project you had to maintain. The question behind the search is usually simple: is there a way to see my business without building and maintaining reports myself?
One naming note first. As of October 2026, Google’s own pages call the product Data Studio, and lookerstudio.google.com redirects to datastudio.google.com; many people still search for it as Looker Studio, so this post uses both names.
What is Data Studio (Looker Studio) built for?
As of October 2026, Google’s product page describes Data Studio as “visualization and reporting for individuals and teams”. It says you can “directly connect to more than 1,400 data sources, including Google Sheets, Google Ads, BigQuery, and Google Analytics”, choose from over 1,300 Community Connectors, or build your own connector. Reports are made in a drag-and-drop editor, with “a choice of pixel perfect or snap-to-grid responsive canvas”, and can include filters, images, text and multiple pages. You can share reports, collaborate in real time and embed them on a web page.
On cost, Google says Data Studio “is available at no charge for creators and report viewers”, and that Data Studio Pro is the paid version, with team content management and support. On AI, Google’s release notes say Conversational Analytics is available to all Data Studio users, working with data agents that are created in BigQuery.
In short, it is a free, very well connected reporting tool, especially strong inside Google’s ecosystem. The work of designing each report is yours.
Why look for a Looker Studio alternative for small business?
Not because the tool is weak. Because a report is a thing you build. You choose a data source for each chart, pick fields and dimensions, set the layout, and come back when something changes. For someone with time and an interest in data, that is fine, even fun. For an owner who wants to know “how did this week go, and what should I do about it?”, the building is the cost.
Vexlynk takes the opposite route. It is a visual workspace, a canvas, where each account you connect arrives as a ready-made live card. You do not design the card; you place it. Then an AI agent reads the cards and answers questions across them, and built-in analyses write their findings onto the board.
How does a board replace a report you maintain?
Sources arrive as finished cards
Connect Google Analytics 4 and pick your property: the card shows traffic, acquisition channels and geography. Connect Stripe with a key from your own account: revenue, subscriptions and recent payments, read-only. Shopify shows revenue today, this week and this month, plus orders waiting to ship. YouTube, HubSpot, Calendly, Notion, Instagram and the rest work the same way, 23 sources in all, listed in the connecting sources guide. Cards refresh on their own or on request, show when they were last updated, and keep their last good data if a refresh fails.
You ask instead of building a new chart
When you want one more number, you ask the agent. “Which acquisition channel grew this month, and did Stripe revenue move with it?” It reads the GA card and the Stripe card together and shows which cards it used. If the answer depends on data you have not connected, it says so instead of guessing. The agent guide covers what it can and cannot see.
Analyses write themselves onto the board
Twelve Vlynks write analysis cards with each finding cited to its cards. ROI & Break-Even computes break-even, ROI, a cost breakdown and runway from the revenue and costs on your board. Financial Control shows budget against spend, where the money goes and your cash position, with every figure taken from a card. Morning Brief reads the whole board and surfaces the top signal and one action. You can schedule a Vlynk daily or weekly, and AI-written ones start with the schedule off, because each run uses your AI allowance.
Charts are still there when you want them
A chart card draws line, bar, pie, gauge and more. Point it at a spreadsheet card you filled in or at a live source card, and it moves when the data moves. It is one card on the board, not a page you lay out.
How do Data Studio and Vexlynk compare?
The Data Studio column comes from Google’s pages as of October 2026. Vexlynk’s comes from its documentation and features page.

What does a week on the board look like?
Take a hypothetical owner of a small online course business who used to keep a report with GA traffic and a sheet of sales.
- Monday. Connect Google Analytics 4 and Stripe. Both cards fill on their own. Add a spreadsheet card with monthly costs and a note about the course launch next month.
- Tuesday. Install ROI & Break-Even from the Marketplace and run it. Its card shows where revenue covers costs and how much runway the numbers on the board imply.
- Wednesday. Ask the agent: “Traffic dipped this week. Is it one channel, and does it matter for the launch note?” It answers from the GA card and the note.
- Friday. Set Financial Control to run weekly so a fresh card is waiting each week.

When is Data Studio the better choice?
- You need a polished report for other people. Pixel-perfect layouts, multiple pages, real-time collaboration and embedding on a website are Data Studio’s strengths. Vexlynk’s docs do not describe sharing a board.
- Your data lives in Google’s ecosystem or a warehouse. Google Ads, BigQuery and Sheets connect directly, and the connector catalogue is far larger than Vexlynk’s 23 sources.
- You enjoy building reports. If designing exactly the view you want is part of the value for you, a report editor gives you that control.
- Budget is the deciding factor. Google says creators and viewers pay nothing for Data Studio.
Vexlynk is also not the right fit if you need to work from a phone, since the canvas is built for a computer screen. It fits when you want your sources in one place without building anything, plus an agent that can tell you what changed.
Try it with one source
Connect Google Analytics or Stripe, add a note about what you are working on, and ask the agent a question you would normally build a chart for. Try Vexlynk in your browser or download the desktop app. The full list of sources is on the sources page, and you can see plans whenever you are ready.
Frequently asked questions
Is Looker Studio now called Data Studio?
As of October 2026, Google’s product pages use the name Data Studio, and the lookerstudio.google.com address redirects to datastudio.google.com. Many people still search for it under the Looker Studio name.
Can I import my existing reports into Vexlynk?
Vexlynk’s docs do not describe importing reports. You connect the same accounts as sources, and the cards fill on their own.
Does Vexlynk connect to Google Sheets or BigQuery?
Neither is in Vexlynk’s source catalogue today. You can keep your own figures in a spreadsheet card on the board, and the agent and the Vlynks read it.
Can I still see charts?
Yes. Chart cards draw line, bar, pie, gauge and more from a spreadsheet card or a live source card, and Vlynk cards include charts where the data supports them.
